Virtualization
Creating the Virtual Machine
Use the following command to create a virtual machine with the correct hardware type:
virt-install –virt-type qemu –name nt4-vm –cdrom /path/to/installer.iso –os-variant winnt4.0 –disk size=4 –memory 64 –cpu pentium –network user,model=rtl8139
Drivers
Use the VBEMP drivers for better graphical fidelity.
Use the VMware mouse drivers from an earlier version of VMware tools for seamless mouse support.
ACPI/CPU Idle
The Softex HAL.DLL included in Service Pack 6 supports soft shutdowns, but does not support HLT instructions resulting in high CPU load during idle. There is a Fujitsu version that can do both. Download HALFMV1.DLL and replace your existing HAL.DLL with it. Then, open Regedit and change HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon to 1 and reboot.
